Iowa Unity Coalition Endorses John Forbes for Polk County Supervisor, District 1

The Iowa Unity Coalition is pleased to announce the endorsement of John Forbes for Polk County Supervisor, District 1 in the upcoming Democratic primary election to be held on June 2, 2026. The Iowa Unity Coalition is dedicated to building political power within our diverse and underrepresented communities at every level of government.

John Forbes is a former state representative who retired from the legislature in 2024 after serving 6 terms. Prior to serving in the legislature, he served on the Urbandale City Council for 8 years. He is a pharmacist and the former owner of Medicap Pharmacies located in Polk County and surrounding areas. During his career, Mr. Forbes has won several state and national pharmacy awards and is a past president of the Iowa Pharmacy Association. He has also fundraised and led several honor flights, taking veterans to Washington D.C. to visit war memorials.



John is a strong advocate for improving mental health services and has the expertise and experience needed to bring improved and expanded services to Polk County. He will prioritize efforts to reduce housing insecurity and homelessness by expanding affordable housing options. Additionally, he will seek ways to address food insecurity and ways to make services more accessible. John recognizes the serious clean water problems we have and will work to find long term solutions. The Iowa Unity Coalition believes his success as a city councilor and state representative give him the skills needed to accomplish these goals.
