The Iowa Unity Coalition is pleased to announce the endorsement of Dr. Jennie Doke-

Kerns for West Des Moines City Council, Ward 1 in the upcoming election to be held on

November 4, 2025. The Iowa Unity Coalition is dedicated to building political power

within our diverse and underrepresented communities at every level of government.



Dr. Doke-Kerns is a life-long resident of the Des Moines area and has worked in

education for over 25 years. Currently, she is a professor of English and Humanities as

well as Coordinator of Academic Services at DMACC West Campus. She sits on the

boards of the Young Women’s Resource Center, Taste of the Junction and the Central

Iowa Community Land Trust. Previously, Dr. Doke-Kerns served as Chair of the Iowa

Consortium for Higher Education in Prison and on the board of Iowa Prison Industries.

The Iowa Unity Coalition believes she will be the best representative of the residents of

West Des Moines Ward 1, particularly those who are most vulnerable.
