Iowa Unity Coalition Endorses Rita Vargas for Re-Election for Scott County Recorder

The Iowa Unity Coalition is pleased to announce the endorsement of Rita Vargas for re-election as Scott County Recorder in the upcoming general election to be held on November 3, 2026. The Iowa Unity Coalition is dedicated to building political power within our diverse and underrepresented communities at every level of government. 


Rita Vargas has served as Scott County Recorder since 2003 and is running for her 7th term. She was the first Latina elected to public office in the State of Iowa. Prior to her election as recorder, she worked for Senator Tom Harkin as a district representative and case worker for 13 years. As recorder, Rita has worked to streamline the records in her office, protect personal information and make the office more accessible to citizens.


Rita graduated from Davenport High School and Marycrest College with a BA in social behavioral science. She earned a Master’s degree in public administration from Drake University. Ms. Vargas is the 2022 recipient of the Iowa Unity Coalition Trailblazer Award. Her work in the public sector has been inspirational for Latinas across Iowa.
